    A college\u27s academic reputation (AR) plays a significant role in positioning the institution. Survey responses of college-bound high school seniors suggest that a majority of respondents view successful postgraduate careers as very important to the perception of AR and very likely to be attributed to a college with very good AR. A principle components factor analysis revealed three factors that describe the perception of AR (i.e., Academic Concerns, Campus Ethos, Practical Value). In a similar analysis three factors were found likely to be associated with very good AR (i.e., Curricular Concerns, Exclusivity, Career Preparation)

    Spectral Energy Distributions for Disk and Halo M--Dwarfs

    We have obtained infrared (1 to 2.5 micron) spectroscopy for 42 halo and disk dwarfs with spectral type M1 to M6.5. These data are compared to synthetic spectra generated by the latest model atmospheres of Allard & Hauschildt. Photospheric parameters metallicity, effective temperature and radius are determined for the sample. We find good agreement between observation and theory except for known problems due to incomplete molecular data for metal hydrides and water. The metal-poor M subdwarfs are well matched by the models as oxide opacity sources are less important in this case. The derived effective temperatures for the sample range from 3600K to 2600K; at these temperatures grain formation and extinction are not significant in the photosphere. The derived metallicities range from solar to one-tenth solar.     Burning, dumping, and site use during the Middle and Upper Palaeolithic at Hohle Fels Cave, SW Germany

    Dumped deposits are a valuable source of information for inferring past behaviour. They provide insights into site maintenance, social organization and settlement dynamics. Hohle Fels Cave in SW Germany offers a unique opportunity to investigate the importance of dumping and site maintenance during the Middle and Upper Palaeolithic of the Swabian Jura. In this paper, we analyse anthropogenic deposits at Hohle Fels employing micromorphology and fabric analysis in order to reconstruct their formation and understand the human behaviours behind their accumulation. Our study indicates that dumping residues from combustion features in the interior of Hohle Fels Cave has a long history extending back to Neanderthal occupation at the site during the Middle Palaeolithic. Despite some reworking via down-slope movement, most of the features demonstrate that the site’s inhabitants dumped burnt material, which was previously the fuel for domestic hearths, in specific locations within the cave. The intentionality of the action and the characteristics of the features provide important information for reconstructing the mode and spatial organization of occupations at the site. The combustion features from the Middle Palaeolithic allow us to reassess the hypothesis that Neanderthals’ use of the site was less intense and documented a lesser degree of spatial patterning than subsequent Upper Palaeolithic occupations.     RON-BEAM DEBUG AND FAILURE ANALYSIS OF INTEGRATED CIRCUITS

    A current research project at IMAG/TIM3 Laboratory aims at an integrated test system combining the use of the Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), used in voltage contrast mode, with a new high-level approach of fault location in complex VLSI circuits, in order to reach a complete automated diagnosis process. Two research themes are induced by this project, which are: prototype validation of known circuits, on which CAD information is available, and failure analysis of unknown circuits, which are compared to reference circuits. For prototype validation, a knowledge-based approach to fault location is used. Concerning failure analysis, automatic image comparison based on pattern recog- nition techniques is performed. The purpose of the paper is to present these two methodologies, focusing on the SEM-based data acquisition process

    Tutoring is Real: The Benefits of the Peer Tutor Experience for Future English Educators

    In this article, an English education professor, a university writing center administrator, and a recent graduate of an undergraduate English education program discuss the role peer tutoring might play in enhancing the education of preservice teachers of writing. The authors argue that by providing additional, authentic field experiences which reflect constructivist, student-centered philosophies often adhered to in English education programs, university peer tutoring can provide undergraduate students with authentic experience in learning collaboratively, developing rapport with students, and conducting student-centered, one-to-one writing conferences

    Monochromatized Alkα XPS has been used to monitor changes in the electronic structure of 123 sintered pellets as a function of temperature (90-650K). Since 123 surfaces are known to lose oxygen and react with water, a novel procedure was used to prepare the material surface that would be representative of the bulk material. In contrast with published results, we observed drastic DOS modification (i.e. the appearance of a new peak close to the Fermi level at low temperature)
